GOVERNOR AJIMOBI LED GOVERNMENT: A GOVERNMENT FULL WITH FAILED PROMISES, POLICIES, DECEPTION, DISAPPOINTMENT AND ARROGANCE_ EaglesEye
It is not out of place that Politicians all aver the world do make promises to win over the heart of the electorate during campaigns. The Honourable and God fearing one fulfill the promise to the best of their ability while the dishonorable ones neglect and forget about their promises, Ajimobi belongs to the latter.Oyo state Governor, Ajimobi
Taking A look at the 7 years plus of Ajimobi government:
1. Independent Power Project:- I'm a follower of Ajimobi government especially during the first term, Ajimobi promised Oyo people that the issue of epileptic power supply will be a thing of the past if elected... He explained how Oyo government was ready to makes use of the Asejire, Eleyele and Dandaru Dams to generate electricity through the Hydro Electric Power. Up till today there is nothing like that in Oyo. It was only slip of tongue.
2. Building Of A 5 Star Hotel In Ibadan:- Ajimobi laid the foundation of a supposed 150 rooms 5 star hotel in May, 2012. He promised the project will be completed before the end of his first term. We almost at the tail end of his second term... Nothing is growing on that expanse of land in between Premier Hotel and Cultural Center.
3. The YES_O Program:- May 29, 2011, Ajimobi promised to employ about 200,000 youths in Oyo state under the YES _O scheme. At first only 10,000 individual were employed. The program was a grand failure as there was no payment of salary for almost 10 months then the Oyo government mandated the local government to be paying the allowance of the YES-O Cadet posted to their LG, this is absurd.
We are not sure if Oyo government has up to 1000 cadet remaining under this scheme.
4. Ibadan Circular Road:- Ajimobi promised to construct a 108km road to cover the whole the ancient city, but just like other Promises, this road was only constructed in his dreams or on paper.
5. OYO STATE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY: Early in 2013, the state governor came up with announcement of a technical University to be established in partnership with an American based University, Texas Technical University. According to the governor, students are to spend two years in the university in Nigeria and spend the remaining two years in the affiliated University in Texas. He stated that the first set of the student will be admitted by September 2013. Up to 2016 no single student was admitted and the project was as good as dead not until last 2018. According to the governor, “What makes this university unique is that we are focusing on the courses that are not readily available in other technical universities in Nigeria such as mechatronics, aircraft technology, robotics, cyber space security and others” Money spent on the Adegoke Plaza and the acquisition of land at the Ibadan end of Lagos/Ibadan express way for the project has not been utilized to the nearest minimum. The students who applied for admission to the University in 2013 wasted both time and money.
Equally, the fees in the school is extremely high that average earners cannot afford it.
6. MODEL SECONDARY SCHOOL: In preparation for the last general election, our governor promised to establish six model schools in each of the political zones of the states, existing school buildings were pulled down in Oyo, Ogbomosho, Mokola, Eruwa, Shaki and Iseyin with a promised that the model schools will take off before the election held in March, 2015. This is 2019, most of these schools are still under construction as none of the school has been officially commissioned for use.
7. LAUTECH PALAVA:- Ajimobi shows no interest what so ever in a school co-owned by Osun state (both APC state) The school was on strike for a long period of time due to lack of fund and all the Governor has to say when the students protested to his office was that he's not responsible for the closure of their school.
8. Agriculture Suffers A Major Set Back:- Ajimobi promised to mechanized agriculture in the state, at a time 350 tractors were said to be purchased for farm use... I never set my eyes on those tractors. There's was nothing remarkable on agriculture during the 2 term spell of Ajimobi.
9. Inadequacies in the payment of salary and Ajimobi is unapologetic about it. All he could do was to be comparing the state with another states owing long month salary.
10. The Proposed Industrialization of the state: No governor in Nigeria has travelled more than Governor Ajimobi or made noise about travelling out of the country to Dubai, USA, Lebanon, China, Japan, India Uk and the likes to bring investor to Nigeria . Yet with Eight years down the state cannot see even a cottage industry as a result of all these waste of the state resources on travelling and estacode.
The situation of Oyo state under Governor Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi is so horrible and pathetic that it’s a political and economic contrast to compare his administration with that of Chief Obafemi Awolowo as he use to arrogantly do In most of his speeches. Awo was a visualist, performer, reformer, kind hearted and a political institution that has passed the test of time. Even political failures like Ajimobi often testify to the good works, landmark establishments and institutions built by the great Awo. Ajimobi will be leaving Oyo State without any enviable legacy except the above stated and unstated disasters.
