Ondo Assembly orders suspension of union activities at NULGE Secretariat

The Ondo State House of Assembly has directed that all union activities at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees Ondo State chapter should be put on hold with immediate effect as contains in a report received by VoiceAirMedia.

This followed a petition to the Assembly by aggrieved members of the union on the procedure for the appointment of a new President of the union which they claimed was not in line with the constitution and norms of the union. The former President of the union Mr Bode Eniayewu was recently appointed a permanent Secretary in the local government, thereby creating a vacuum in that office.

The aggrieved members of the union who protested to the House of Assembly however alleged that the process adopted for appointing a new person to fill the vacant position of the President was against the constitution of NULGE.

Speaking at the plenary, the Speaker Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt.Honourable Oleyelogun Bamidele David noted that members of the House would not fold their arms and allow the crisis to threaten the reigning peace in Ondo State. " As elected representatives of the people, we cannot fold our arms while the NULGE crisis degenerates to the level of threatening the existing peace of the state".

After a thorough debate on the issue, a three man adhoc committee on ethics and privileges was constituted to investigate the claim by the aggrieved members and report back to the House in two weeks.

The committee has as its Chairman Honourable Jamiu Maito , representing Akoko North-West constituency 1.
The Speaker thereafter ruled that all union activities at the NULGE secretariat should be suspended immediately, pending the outcome of the investigation by the house.
