NYSC corps Member RE : ARREST AND DETENTION OF EZE JAMES

NYSC corps Member RE : ARREST AND DETENTION OF EZE JAMES

On Monday,8th October, 2018, Corps member Eze James with the code number LA/18B/2361 was randomly and unlawfully arrested by some overzealous security personnel while in his house, owing to a purported crime committed by some members of the neighbourhood. Upon Eze’s arrest, his belongings, including his mobile phone were immediately ceased, which hindered him from contacting the officials of the National Youth Service Corps. Consequently, Eze was only able to reach out to his closest contact when he had been summarily trialed and incarcerated without investigation. Due to the Honourable Judge’s pronouncement, Eze could only be bailed out of incarceration after the fulfillment of stringent bail conditions.

Meanwhile, upon being notified, the National Youth Service Corps immediately sprung into action only to be debarred by a rigorous and procedural legal process to secure the release of this corps member the same day of being notified of this disturbing misfortune. However, through the efforts of the Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations, Mr. Oluseye Oladejo, the State Coordinator of NYSC Lagos State, Prince Momoh Mohammed and the NYSC Lagos State legal officer, Barr. Tosin Onilenla, corps member Eze James was released yesterday Wednesday, 10th of October, 2018 after the fulfillment of all bail conditions. It is pertinent to add that while this corps member was unlawfully detained, the NYSC Lagos State tended to his welfare in the most considerable manner as could be ‘permitted’ hence, filling the void of the absence of his relations in the State.

While the National Youth Service Corps in Lagos State Condemns this barbaric, inhumane and malicious arrest and unlawful detention of Eze James and other victims of this Gestapo-like raid, past and present, we regret this unpleasant and demoralizing misfortune this  innocent corps member had to endure in the course of his diligent service to the fatherland and we want to unequivocally reassure all corps members and members of the public that the safety of all corps members in Lagos State is our foremost priority and that all corps members should continue to carry out their duties with all sense of humility and service to the nation without any fear and intimidation.

In the meantime, important stakeholders have been consulted, to address the dehumanization of Eze James and to forestall similar occurrence in the nearest future.

Signed
NYSC Lagos State Management.
