MAPOLY STUDENTS SHUT DOWN SCHOOL GATE TO PROTEST LECTURERS STRIKE

The students say they will not stop protesting until their lecturers suspend their strike and resume to the classrooms.

The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic  (MAPOLY) have reportedly shut down their school main gate to express their displeasure on the ongoing strike of members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP).

The students according to Premium Times protested on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the school entrance and also prevented the polytechnic community from gaining entrance.

Some students who spoke with the news platform reportedly said the protest will continue until their lecturers return to class.

Recall that following an emergency meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, the staff of the polytechnic said they are going to resume their suspended industrial action.

The union said the decision to go on strike was to press home their demands for the state government to fix deplorable state of the institution.

The Zone C Coordinator of ASUP,Olawale Omoobaorun , said that the 38-year-old institution established and owned by Ogun State government had been on the verge of collapse due to a series of challenges facing it.

According to him, MAPOLY is grappling with many issues some of which are non-payment of accrued allowances, seizure of union and cooperative deduction, infractions in the appointment of Rector and politicization of the polytechnic subsector.
