Ekiti Assembly probes Ayodele Fayose’s last minute N10 billion budget

The controversy surrounding the passage and approval of N10 billion supplementary budget by the immediate past administration of Ayo Fayose has resurfaced as the Ekiti State House of Assembly reopened the matter on Tuesday.

Adeniran Alagbada, Speaker of the House, has set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the matter. The ad-hoc committee has the deputy speaker, Olusegun Adewumi, as chairman, with Akinniyi Sunday and Fajana Ojo-Ade as members.

Meanwhile, the House has applauded Governor Kayode Fayemi for cancelling the education tax imposed on pupils by the immediate past administration.

Alagbada gave the commendation while contributing to the debate on the effect of the cancellation at the House plenary in Ado-Ekiti.

The speaker described the abrogation of the education tax as a burden taken away from the people and prayed that the Almighty God would continue to abide with the governor towards leading Ekiti to the right path.

The House Leader of Business, Gboyega Aribisogan, who led the debate on the cancellation of the education tax, said Ekiti people had earlier rejected the tax.

Aribisogan remarked that a religious organisation criticised and instituted legal action against the then government.

In his contribution, the Minority Leader, Sunday Akinniyi, said the cancellation has made Ekiti people happier and pointed out that the action was a demonstration of the love Governor Fayemi has for them.

Other members of the House, including Cecilia Dada, Fajana Ojo-Ade, Adedeji Michael, and the Deputy Speaker, Olusegun Adewumi, noted that the introduction of the tax had contributed to the development of the education sector but praised Governor Fayemi for its cancellation.

They described the action as a step in the right direction and stressed that it would reduce the burden on parents. All the lawmakers unanimously approved the commendation contained in a resolution moved by the Leader of Business, Aribisogan, and seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Olusegun Adewumi.
